SAN ANGELO STATE PARK

SAN ANGELO, TEXAS

San Angelo State Park is located in the great state of Texas, about 3 hours west of San Antonio and Austin.  This is a great stopover for those of you on the long trek out west, or a nice layover between some must-see attraction, such as the Alamo and Carlsbad Caverns.

That's not to say there isn't quite enough to do in the area of San Angelo, but I have to admit it was the perfect location to rest the mind after the hectic driving situation in Austin!

Positives: First and foremost, if you purchase a Texas State Park pass, you will receive a huge discount when booking your campsites at any Texas State Park. Amenities are just around the corner.  As a matter of fact, I believe San Angelo has the largest Walmart I've ever visited!  If you remote work, the cell data is excellent throughout the park. The fishing on O.C. Fisher Lake was exceptional by the dam and state park visitors do not need to have a fishing license. 30 minutes away is Lake Nasworthy, which is an excellent stop on a day trip to Pugh River Park near Christoval, Texas. As to the park itself, the restrooms and showers are clean and provide hot water.  The sites are spaced apart from each other, offering some privacy, there are numerous bike trails, and last but not least...there are bison on the property!

Negatives: There isn't great access to the lake from the State Park. When looking at Google maps, it appears one could walk to the water; however, the lake is surrounded by cacti that make it impossible to safely reach the water.  There isn't much to do in the surrounding area; however, a short 30-minute drive will take you to some amazing sights and plenty of water activities.
